Story of our Crosses Sunday

Please bring crosses to be blessed this Sunday, August 20th.

During sermon time everyone will be invited, but not required, to tell their story about their favorite crosses. For example I plan on bringing my Seminary Cross.

This is part of our 200 Diocesan event. Hopefully, we will have 200 crosses to bless, so bring as many as you want. They will be blessed during the service and we will take pictures following the service for the upcoming Diocesan Convention. Don't worry, your crosses are not to be given away. They will be blessed and you can take them home. Thanks so much.

Rev. Kay

Super Bowl and Candlemas

Sunday, February 5, marks two significant events in our church life:

Super Bowl Chili Cook-Off

Every year on Super Bowl Sunday, our Coffee Hour is dedicated to a Chili Cook-Off. Games and prizes, including a vote for the best chili. Come join the fun, even if you don't bring any chili!

This is an ancient tradition in the Episcopal church. Here is a good explanation of Candlemas (which also explains our Groundhog Day). Bring a candle to be blessed, and also bring a flashlight to be given away to a family that might need an emergency light during the year.

Tuesday, January 17, 2017

Two coming events

Weekly Bible Study

The weekly Bible study meets at the church Thursday mornings at 10:30 am. You don't have to be a Bible scholar to attend. Everyone is welcome.

Chili Cook-Off

February 5 (Superbowl Sunday) is our annual Chili Cook-Off and contest during coffee hour after church. Come and vote for the best.

Winter Convocation

2017 Winter Convocation

February 10 and 11, 2017

Early registrations are helpful. Register by January 10 to save $15 per person on registration and $25 per night at the Comfort Inn.

Click this link to get to the registration and program website.

If we bring a team of six or more Adults from St. Matthew's, we receive a 50% refund on all of our congregation's Adult Registrations.

(Each person should register independently and pay the full or early bird price. Like last year, the week after Convocation the Diocese will send a 50% reimbursement check to all parishes with sufficient registrants.)

Please note that the ticket price does not include hotel registration or Friday dinner (though the Convocation has a really extensive menu at the 8:30 reception). Breakfast isn't included either, but the Comfort Inn has a complimentary breakfast for guests.

January Official Events

Bishop's Visit

Bishop Hollingsworth will be with us for his regular annual visit on January 15. In addition to worshiping with us, he will also meet with the Vestry and with our Rector.

Annual Meeting

The parish annual meeting will be after morning Eucharist on January 22, at which time we will elect new Vestry members. We'll also have a potluck dinner that day. The retiring Vestry members are Curt Allen and Andi Shifley. Nominees to fill their positions are Sharon Broeder and David Gibbs. We had elected Mike McKinley to finish Norma McKinley's term; now Mike is nominated to fill a full term of his own.
